depression and panic attacks helped with Homeopathy

When I went to see Elena in 2006, I was suffering with depression, panic attacks and was having troubles sleeping. I was missing work and knew I had to do something different than taking the conventional medications that weren't working for me. We met and she spent a significant amount of time getting a good understanding of what was going on for me. After the first remedy she chose, my anxiety disappeared and I was myself again; very functional, happy and enthusiastic for life. Five years later, I experienced some of the similar symptoms and went back to see her and was significantly better the very day after taking my Homeopathic Remedy.

Sleeplessness Insomnia and Homoeopathy

Sleeplessness

 What is sleeplessness?
 Causes of sleeplessness
 Symptoms of sleeplessness
 Other ways to help

What is sleeplessness?
Sleeplessness is a disorder where sufferers find it hard to either fall asleep, or to stay asleep throughout the night. It is a common complaint and it’s thought that around a third of the population suffer with bouts of sleeplessness at times. Sleeplessness can last from two or three days to two or three years for chronic sufferers. More commonly though, sleeplessness usually lasts from between one and three weeks.

Human beings need sleep to rejuvenate their mind and body, so a disturbance in sleep for just one night can take its toll on our overall wellbeing. However, if suffered with over a period of time sleeplessness can lead to low mood and other mental health issues.

Causes of sleeplessness
 Low mood
 Mild anxiety
 Grief
 Relationship problems
 Hectic lifestyle
 External factors (noise, light, snoring, partner moving around)
 Jet lag
 Arthritis, headaches and back pain
 Menopause (hot flush)
 Gastrointestinal disorders
 Excess alcohol or caffeine consumption
 Side effects of some medication
 Sleep disorders

Symptoms of sleeplessness
 Tossing and turning for hours before falling sleep.
 Waking up several times in the middle of the night and not being able to get back to sleep easily.
 Waking up extremely early in the morning (this is the least common type of sleeplessness)
 Difficulty concentrating during the day, forgetfulness and sloppiness at work.
 Feeling tired and not refreshed by sleep.
 Feeling irritable and burnt out.

Other ways to help
Cut down on the caffeine, alcohol and sugar you consume in your diet. If you really feel you need caffeine to get you through the day, avoid consuming it after 4:00 pm.

Eat foods that help with a natural night’s sleep, such as legumes and seeds, dark leafy green vegetables, wheat bran, almonds, cashews and whole grains. These foods are rich in sleep inducing tryptophan and/or magnesium.

Exercise frequently. Humans were born to move and not expending enough energy during the day can lead to a restless night. However, avoid exercising late at night as this can raise your adrenaline levels and worsen sleeplessness.

Sleep with the lights out in complete darkness. Studies show sleeping with lights may lead to depression and weight gain.

The particularity of homeopathy can be ascertained by the fact that there are various remedies for insomnia depending on different symptoms and the underlying cause:

  • Belladonna Sleeplessness due to congestion, restless sleep, spasmodic motions, frightful images upon closing the eyes and violent throbbing or pulsating in the brain. Belladonna is the acute of Calcarea carb, when children may have fears of monsters at night.
  • Chamomilla Commonly for children who cannot sleep due to teething pain or those who have sleep tormented by vivid, fanciful and anxious dreams.
  • Aconite Conditions where sleep eludes due to shock, grief, anxiety or restlessness after trauma.
  • Arsenicum Album Suited to conditions where the individual is sleepy during the day, but unable to sleep in the night, with desire for sips of water, restlessness and need for company.
  • Passiflora Incarnata in Tincture This flower, shown above, has a quieting effect on the nervous system. This remedy can be used when the patient lies awake till dawn and feels extremely exhausted. Helpful in a number of ages and groups like screaming irritable kids, alcoholics and old age persons. Passiflora chemicals provide sedative and tranquilizing effects. Ask your physician how to administer.
  • Coffea Cruda  Suitable for persons who are sleepless due to overactive nervous system and excessive joy, a rush of ideas and no sign of fatigue. They feel over excited and restless. They have unusual mental hyperactivity, and exhibit acute senses as occurs after having a cup of coffee. Sleep may be impossible for many days, despite feeling tired, due to a frustrating inability to switch off the mind. When person's who benefit from coffea cruda in homeopathic form do finally sleep, they wake up by the slightest noise. Another reason for insomnia in these patients may be an upcoming exam, some shocking or good news, or stress. Compare to other homeopathic remedies for anticipation, anxiety, shock, news or other stressors.
  • Gelsemium When mental stress, more than physical activity prevents sleep, these persons feel apprehensive about work. Students that feel nervous due to upcoming exams or a business person anxious before giving a presentation end up sleepless due to apprehension. Gelsemium will help them overcome their anticipation and help them sleep, plus do better on the exam or at their presentation. Don't forget this remedy before dental appointments.
  • Arnica Useful for physical overwork and when the patient says the bed feels too hard and uncomfortable. This remedy is also useful for jet lag.
  • Cocculus When people care for sick loved ones, stays up nursing others, has many worries and concerns about health this may result in sleeplessness when they wake every hour looking at the clock. Cocculus may help also when a person undergoes a time shift in their work schedule.
  • Lachesis Most notable for females approaching menopause, with concomitant of hot flushes at night, aggravation of complaints on sleeping and from heat, sensation of suffocation. Lachesis helps adjust hormonal swings and give a calm sleep.
  • Nux Vomica For insomnia due to withdrawal effects of alcohol, coffee, sedatives, over eating, and over study. These workaholics wake up early in the morning and cannot sleep again. Lack of sleep makes this person angry and irritable while feeling sleepy in the early part of evening.
  • Jalapa Tincture A remedy often used for children who are sleepless due to flatulent colic at night.
  • Chamomilla Another children's remedy for those who are sleepless due to teething, colic, anger and refuse to sleep calmly. They scream even when kindly spoken too. They are constantly moaning and have capriciousness. They are the most irritable kids. Chamomila will help them relax, and can also be useful for adults with extreme pains.
  • Avena sativa Tincture Another homeopathic sedative for alcoholics and most useful to help nourish nursing mothers.

Radiation & Chemotherapy Side Effects

Radiation & Chemotherapy Side Effects

Classical homeopathic treatment addresses the side effects of chemotherapy and radiation treatment naturally and effectively. Our remedies can alleviate chemotherapy and radiation side effects such as nausea, vomiting, fatigue, loss of appetite, depression, and skin complaints.

Homeopathy does not antidote the positive effects of chemotherapy and radiation treatment.

Studies Prove Homeopathy Alleviates Chemotherapy and Radiation Side Effects

Matthias Rostock,  Johannes Naumann, Corina Guethlin, Lars Guenther, Hans H Bartsch and Harald Walach. “Classical homeopathy in the treatment of cancer patients – a prospective observational study of two independent cohorts” BMC Cancer 2011, 11:19

We conducted a prospective observational study with cancer patients in two differently treated cohorts: one cohort with patients under complementary homeopathic treatment (HG; n=259), and one cohort with conventionally treated cancer patients (CG; n=380). For a direct comparison, matched pairs with patients of the same tumour entity and comparable prognosis were to be formed. Main outcome parameter: change of quality of life (FACT-G, FACIT-Sp) after 3 months. Secondary outcome parameters: change of quality of life (FACT-G, FACIT-Sp) after a year, as well as impairment by fatigue (MFI) and by anxiety and depression (HADS). In our prospective study, we observed an improvement of quality of life as well as a tendency of fatigue symptoms to decrease in cancer patients under complementary homeopathic treatment.

Kassab S, Cummings M, Berkovitz S, van Haselen R, Fisher P. ”Homeopathic Medicines for Adverse effects of Cancer Treatments.” Cochrane Database Systematic Review. 2009 Apr 15;(2):CD004845.

Cochrane Reviews investigate the effects of interventions for prevention, or treatment of illness, or rehabilitation from illness, in a healthcare setting. Most Cochrane Reviews are based on overviews of randomized controlled trials and other forms of evidence that are deemed to be appropriate. This review was conducted to determine what, if any, evidence (in the opinion of the Cochrane reviewers) exists for the treatment by homeopathy of the effects of conventional cancer therapies. A search through numerous databases revealed 8 controlled trials involved in this area of study, 7 of which were placebo controlled and 1 of which was against an active treatment. In total, the trials covered the outcomes of 664 people who’d been variously suffering from the adverse effects of radiotherapy, chemotherapy or breast cancer treatment. Of the 8, 2 trials exhibited beneficial effects from homeopathy. One of these involved a comparison between the effects of a topical corticosteroid and a homeopathic mother tincture of calendula for the prevention of dermatitis from radiotherapy where the calendula proved to be superior to the drug. The other involved the successful use of a homeopathic complex for stomatatitis caused by chemotherapy.

Kulkarni A, Nagarkar BM, Burde GS.  “Radiation protection by use of homoeopathic medicines.” Proceedings from the 8th Conference of Radiation Oncologists of India, Bombay, December 1986, reported in Hahnemann Homoeopath Sand, 1988 Jan,12, 1, 20-3.

82 patients receiving radiotherapy were randomly assigned to receive placebo, Cobaltum 30C or Causticum 30C as a means of assessing the effects of these against dermatological reactions to the radiotherapy. The homeopathic medicines provided a significant reduction in the degree of radiation reactions when compared to placebo

Schlappack O. ”Homeopathic treatment of radiation induced itching in breast cancer patients. A prospective observational study.” Homeopathy, 2004, 93, 210-215.

25 women suffering from post-radiotherapy induced itching were treated at the University of Vienna’s Department of Radiotherapy and Radiobiology using individualised homeopathic medicines. After assessment (1-27 days after beginning the treatment) it was found that homeopathic treatment had been successful in 21 of the women enrolled in the study.

Khuda-Bukhsh, A.R., Banik, S. (1991a) “Assessment of Cytogenetic Damage in X-irradiated Mice and its Alteration by Oral Administration of Potentized Homeopathic Drug, Ginseng D200,” Berlin Journal of Research in Homeopathy, 1,4/5:254.

German researchers exposed albino mice to sub-lethal doses of x-ray. Homeopathic Ginseng and Ruta graveolens were given to the mice before and after exposure. Their condition was evaluated at 24, 48, and 72 hours. When compared with mice given a placebo, the homeopathic mice had significantly less chromosomal and cellular damage.

Bildet, J.,Guyot, M., Bonini, F., et al. (1990) “Demonstrating the Effects of Apis mellifica and Apium virus Dilutions on Erythema Induced by U.V. Radiation on Guinea Pigs,” Berlin Journal of Research in Homeopathy, 1:28.

German researchers exposed albino guinea pigs to X-rays until their skin reddened.  Studies showed that homeopathic Apis mellifica not only had a protective effect for the guinea pigs but also a curative effect of about 50 percent on the X-ray reddened skin.

High levels of satisfaction with homeopathy reported in pediatric oncology in Germany

High levels of satisfaction with homeopathy reported in pediatric oncology in Germany

In a recently published article in the open access journal 'Evidence Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine' researchers compared the responses of homeopathy users (HUs) and users of other forms of CAM (NHUs) in pediatric oncology (PO) in Germany. The study concludes that homeopathy is the most frequently used CAM treatment in PO in Germany. HUs sustain treatment and therapies considerably longer than NHUs. Most families who had used homeopathy before their child was diagnosed with cancer also used homeopathy for the treatment of their child's cancer. Compared to other CAM treatments, patient satisfaction with homeopathy appears to be very high. The study also shows that non-medical practitioners played a considerably greater role as source of information than did treating physicians.
